We’re taking a break for the end of the year and will be back in January. We’d like to thank the Dwarf Fortress community – and especially Tarn and Zach – for being so awesome. This is more than a game. It’s a hobby, and every thriving hobby has passionate people who drive camaraderie and innovation. Well, Dwarf Fortress certainly has that, and we thank the community for accepting us as graciously as it has. Everyone have a safe remainder of 2020. We’ll see you in a couple months!

Hi Guys, SalfordSal here, and I’m glad that you found my experiments interesting. Things have moved on quite a bit since that first Reddit post, including having a few things clarified and checked by Toady. For example, we now know that short term memories can only hold one example of each thing, so walking through a field of corpses will only give one bad memory, not eight. There is also a memory clogging effect, which will work against you or can be exploited, if you know how. I’d be happy to talk to you some time about the results of the experiment, including an interesting thing that I stumbled across which forces dwarfs to stop dilly-dallying and go sort out their needs 🙂
Hey guys! Love your podcast. Just wanted to let you know from your last podcast that you can run Dwarf Fortress with old-school ncurses (So long as you have ncurses 5 installed) by changing to PRINT_MODE:TEXT in the init.txt file. Then you can run Dwarf Fortress under ssh, for example. Jonathan mentioned this in the podcast somewhere.
Anyway it’s not that great, as of course you only have ASCII characters available and I haven’t been able to get some things to work, like using the shift key to move around faster. Also it seems stuck on whatever small default terminal size there is.
