Greetings. I am a fan of older DF worlds, cause I like the vibe of the almost post-apocalyptic landscape of necromancer’s towers and ruins full of books. This is the reason why my current fortress, a tower inside a volcano, has a goal of gathering all of the knowledge produced thus far and preserving it for future generations. But after listening to You guys I decided to do something radically different: a very young world, 25 years old, and a series of smaller forts with smaller population caps (50 to 100), a specific theme (a small fishing village, a military outpost, a trading post, a bridge over the river, a small tavern, etc) and maybe some additional rules (no weapon smelting in the tavern, for example). Basically, I want to expand one of this world’s dwarven civilizations one fortress at a time, culminating in the construction of the new mountainhome. The great library concentrated on producing knowledge is also on the table.
I was afraid that DF is getting a bit dull for me, and now I am sitting at work counting hours, cause I want to get back to the game. So thank you for giving me some fresh perspective and new ideas.
That’s great to hear. After hearing Blind talk about the good things about young worlds, it motivated me to do short histories too. I’m looking forward to the first colossus or dragon to visit a fortress. I think I had a colossus once, but I’ve never been attacked by a dragon in my three-plus years of playing.
