Since I learned how to do waterstuffs in DF I pretty much always rout a river into my central staircolumn. Drop it down thru floorgrates (because Urist is suicidal) and let it drain into cavern 2-3 or out the mapside thru engraves fortifications. Seems to help cleaning dwarfs aswell as giving them happy feels.
Here I go thinking everyone does it because tbh, it feels like a cheatcode in terms of fort happiness.
